How it works...
All around the world, most of the money, time and effort spent on golf courses goes into keeping the greens in excellent condition all year round. The greens on the course are worked on more than any other part of our golf courses. The single most damaging every day factor to these greens is the golf ball itself.
A ball hitting the green often leaves an indentation, known as a pitch mark, where it strikes the ground. These need to be repaired to keep the green in good condition. After golfers have arrived at the green, they should always make a point of finding find pitch marks and repairing them.
Pitch marks disrupt the smoothness and uniformity of the putting green surface. The traditional two-pin metal or plastic fork is the most commonly used method for repairing pitch marks. The repair involves a knit-and-twist method. However, this procedure has the potential to disturb or even damage roots and hence, slow turf recovery.
This is why we invented our new pitch mark repair tool which we have called the GREENSAVER. Ground-breaking in more ways than one, the GREENSAVER features an ergonomic design that encourages golfers to push rather than dig when repairing a pitch mark. The real benefit of this innovative tool is that it causes far less damage and stress to the roots of the grass than a standard two-pin pitch mark repairer. It also substantially reduces the amount of time required to repair the pitch mark.
The GREENSAVER has been manufactured to fit comfortably into the golfer's hand. It has been designed and manufactured to allow for safe and efficient use and, as a result, actually encourages the golfer to fix not only his own pitch mark but also those of other golfers.
ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS.
- Do I repair this damage?
- Do I know how to repair a pitch mark properly?
- Do I put enough time and effort into it?
- Do I repair someone else’s pitch mark?
Well, green-keepers and golf course superintendents all over the world will tell you that the answer to these questions is generally “NO”. Over 90% of all pitch marks are either not fixed properly or not fixed at all. A pitch mark which is repaired correctly will be almost invisible in 24 hours. However, a pitch mark repaired incorrectly will be visible for up to 24 days.
SO HOW DOES GREENSAVER HELP
A certain percentage of golfers care for the greens we play on. After all, we all want our greens to be in pristine condition all year round. It certainly helps when you’re trying to make that crucial ten footer! The problem is that the traditional pitch fork is just not designed to make the job easy. Even when used properly it is designed to just cover up the damaged area, not repair it.
This is where the GREENSAVER comes in. It is not only quicker and simpler to use but is also designed to repair the damage caused by the ball. It does this by focusing on the compacted soil, gently softening it up and restoring it to its original state. In most cases, the repair is practically invisible.
Golfers are not only amazed by how well the GREENSAVER works, but also tell us that they find themselves looking to repair other people’s pitch marks as it is such a pleasure to use.
Some superintendents and green-keepers tell us that they think this is the best thing to happen for greens since soft spikes were introduced.
So, try a GREENSAVER for yourself and not only make life easier for your green keeper, but show that YOU really do care for YOUR greens.
The Greensaver Instructions
For large pitch marks, push the displaced turf back into the pitch mark with your thumb or putter.
-
Place the GREENSAVER between your thumb, index and fore finger and hold it at an angle of approximately 45 degrees as shown.
Working your way around the edges, push the GREENSAVER into the compacted pitch mark and allow the spring action to gently restore and repair the pitch mark. Tap down with your putter.
To release the Greensaver ball-marker, locate the raised dimple on the edge of the top rim and push the ball-marker down and forward from this side.
The Science Behind The Greensaver
The Make up of the grass plant

Crown

Root Mat

Thatch Area(Dead plant Material)

Roots

Rootzone
Once the golf ball hits the green the impact penetrates the surface of said green . This leaves a concave impression (Supression). This squashes the grass plant which at times can go black. The common problem with the normal pitch mark repairer is that golfers insert the tool and then twist it. It breaks the root matt and obstructs the crown of the plant. In 90% of cases by repairing the pitch mark wrongly golfers are causing more harm than good as it takes a lot longer for the mark to repair itself

With the green saver the augers penetrate the crown / the root matt / thatch and pulls these up directly without any detrimental effects to the grass plant. We should emphasise the need to angle the greensaver in a circular motion around the pitch mark to achieve best results. 1 / 2 penetrations in the centre of the pitch mark may also be needed to achieve these best results. Another advantage of the greensaver tool is that it does not pull up soil or sand on the green contaminating the surface. This tool ensures that the area of the green that is damaged is concentrated on during the repair. This is not the case with the standard fork as golfers commonly repair all around the area of the suppression when there is no need for this.
The trials done would indicate that the greensaver is an idiot proof tool and will ensure consistency in the hands of golfer’s compared to the old fork method.
It is my belief that the greensaver tool will ensure 95% of pitch marks will be repaired in a more efficient and professional manner by all levels of golfer hence being an invaluable tool to all golf courses worldwide.
